The Carinya Wellness Center is the focal point for our day-to-day activities at the home. It also provides the space and place for residents to maintain connection with their friendship groups, and community members, by having a venue that is inviting for all. The Wellness Centre is separate from our residents’ rooms and communal living areas and allows community members to come and experience what we have to offer on a respite basis, on a volunteer basis, or by just visiting friends and relatives.
Offerings include activities in the designated arts and crafts room; a gymnasium equipped with specialist exercise equipment; large open areas, including an outdoor covered deck; a servery with barista coffee machine; and treatment rooms for visiting doctors and allied health professionals. We promote rehabilitation and restoration through improved mobility and strength, and this is the focus of our gymnasium and specialist equipment in the Wellness Centre. Furthermore, we’ve engaged the services of local exercise physiologists Chris Fry and Carla Barletta and her team, to provide allied health services, which usually involves an introduction for residents to the gym and explanation of what benefits it can provide for them.
The arts and crafts room is a hive of activity at the Wellness Centre. Positioned to provide beautiful views over the surrounding trees and rainforest, it’s a large and spacious room enabling all manner of activities. From silk painting and mosaic making, to knitting and crochet, watercolour and acrylic paintings, pencil drawings and more. Easels and all materials are provided, with artists coming in for demonstrations and classes.
At the heart of the Carinya Wellness Centre is a large, open-plan common room with adjacent outdoor deck. Residents can gather here for activities and celebrations, facilitated by our dedicated team. Examples of some of our activities include mini-golf, cooking demonstrations, bingo, the ukelele and music sessions, visiting guest speakers and more. There’s an adjacent kitchenette with barista coffee machine, which residents and visitors can make use of, relaxing inside or on the covered deck.
Another key feature of the Carinya Wellness Centre is its private treatment and consulting rooms. These rooms can be utilised by doctors and allied health professionals as required, with advance bookings preferred. The ease of use and location make this a popular option for both residents and practitioners.
